Elgin Home for the Holidays: Nov 10-16

ehfth14You better not pout or cry because we’ve made a list (and checked it twice) of this week’s Elgin Home for the Holidays events for you to unwrap.

This year’s Elgin Home for the Holidays promotion, co-sponsored by the Elgin Young Professionals Network and Gail Borden Public Library, features 23 area non-profit organizations cross promoting nearly 40 holiday events sure to fill the brisk Elgin air with the warming spirit of the season.

This week’s slate of Elgin Home for the Holidays events includes a roll of the dice to support the efforts of a vital community non-profit, chamber performances by a renowned area youth symphony orchestra, and a Christmas tree auction that can help brighten the lives of those afflicted with mental illness while simultaneously brightening up your home for the holidays:

pads-logoLet the good times roll on Friday, November 14 at 6:30pm at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 330 Griswold Street in Elgin, at the PADS of Elgin Bunco Tournament. Join them for a night of fun and friendly competition. Enjoy two rounds of dice tournament play as well as dinner and soft drinks. Prizes will be given out for most wins, most losses and most Buncos. No experience necessary! Tickets are only $25.

30th-anniversary-logoOn Saturday, November 15 beginning at 9:30am at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Avenue in Elgin, give the gift of literacy this holiday season. The Literacy Connection’s Volunteer Tutoring takes only 1-2 hours per week to work with adults who need to improve their reading or English skills. You do not need to be a teacher or to speak a foreign language to tutor. You only need to be 18+ years old and able to read, speak and write English. They have 130+ people on their waiting list for a tutor. You could help an adult with limited English discover their full potential and make a profound positive impact on his or her life, resulting in a rewarding experience in your own life.

festoftreesThere’s only a few days left to enjoy the Ecker Center for Mental Health‘s annual Festival of Trees Display at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Avenue in Elgin. These elegant, charming and fascinating trees will continue to be displayed at the library thru Friday, November 14 at noon and are sponsored by individuals and organizations and decorated by volunteer designers/decorators.

Proceeds benefit the Ecker Center for Mental Health. For more information or to purchase your tickets for the Festival of Trees Auction, visit www.FestofTreesElgin.org.

The concerts feature EYSO students in small chamber ensembles. The event is free and open to the community!
