EYPN Judging Downtown Elgin Window Wonderland

1441370_10151772149570920_2796441_nOn Saturday, December 6 from 12-5:30pm, the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin presents their 16th Annual Downtown Elgin Window Wonderland holiday event and Elgin Young Professionals Network will play a role.

This year EYPN members Krisilee Murphy, Saul Acevedo, Angela Carlson, Emily Tyler and Jen Crazythunder will all serve as judges for the storefront window decorating contest. Jason Pawlowski and Kari Christensen will also serve as photographers at the Photos with Santa activity at Elgin Public House, 219 E. Chicago Street.

The decorating theme for this year’s Window Wonderland is “Holiday Scenes from the Silver Screen”. There will also be horse drawn carriage rides, Santa’s Crew live reindeer, chestnut roasting and much more. The day will culminate with the City of Elgin’s annual tree lighting at 5pm at 150 Dexter Court.

We also need volunteers during the year to help promote, volunteer at fringe events, etc.

EYPN RAW at Ola la Ijorere

EYPNRAW_FinalThe RAW (Rhythms Art & Wine) Painting Nights at Ola la Ijorere have been so much fun, Elgin Young Professionals Network wanted to host one as well!

On Thursday, July 31 at 7pm at Ola la Ijorere, 51 S. Spring Street, Elgin, bring your date, your friends or just yourself to EYPN RAW for a night of painting, networking, and lots of fun in downtown Elgin!

Volunteers Needed for Community Carnival Fundraiser

1941532_738552766184625_40477436_oThe Community Carnival, which takes place May 1-4 and May 8-11 at the intersection of Kimball and N. Grove Avenue (across from the Gail Borden Public Library) in downtown Elgin, is seeking volunteers to greet visitors, give information and directions, or provide general maintenance at the event.

Shift schedules are as follows (3-hour shifts):

Thursday shifts: 4:30-7:30 and 7-10 (5-10 counts as double shift)
Friday shifts: 4:30-7:30 and 7-10 (5-10 counts as double shift)
Saturday shifts: 1-4, 4-7 and 7-10
Sunday shifts: 1-4, 4-7 and 7-10

There are two ways volunteers can also help support your local school or non-profit:

1. $10 per volunteer shift will be donated to a Non-Profit/School
2. For every 10 people that volunteer for a Non-profit/ School, they will receive $100

Hula for Moola Raffle Baskets

Get your grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts on and come see what all the hoopla is about at Elgin Young Professional Network’s Hula for Moola Scholarship Fundraiser benefitting the Elgin High School Clumsy Chefs culinary students. The fun starts at 6pm at Chooch’s Pizza, 64 S. Grove Avenue in downtown Elgin.

In addition to a cash bar and free pizza, guests can enjoy Hawaiian music, freshly prepared treats from the Clumsy Chefs and our inaugural Hula Hoopla Challenge where hip-shaking hipsters compete head-to-head in a battle of hula hooping supremacy.

There will also be over 30 raffle baskets available. EYPN members will be selling raffle tickets tonight for $5 each or 6 for $20. Below is a summary of each raffle basket as well as photos of several of the baskets.

Professional Connections Mentoring Program Year-End Meeting

EYPN1 (4)On Thursday, February 20 at 6pm at Chooch’s Pizza (upstairs), 64 S. Grove Avenue in downtown Elgin, the Elgin Young Professionals Network invites the public to join them for an informational meeting about the network’s Professional Connections Mentoring Program.

The informational event will summarize the 2013 mentoring program’s success stories as well as provide details about the 2014 program and how Elgin area young professionals can participate.

The Professional Connections Mentoring Program matches EYPN members with local civic, business and non-profit leaders with the goals of enhancing our members’ overall leadership skills and building vital community connections.
